Progress!

It's all been a bit quiet on the blog front lately, but the project has still been making progress. I'll be sending out a newsletter soon so if you're not on the email list and would like to be, send me a message thewarmemorial@gmail.com

On the research front, I've been collecting bits and pieces to add to several entries, details from battalion war diaries, photographs of memorials etc. I hope to be adding them over the next week.

On the memorial restoration front, a local craftsman is looking at the details of the memorial and preparing a quote. I'm very excited that he's interested in the project and he seems to be positive that he can do it with the available information. Of course, the next step is the fundraising but I'll ignore that while I still can!

In other news, St James Church is to be part of this years Liverpool Open Culture Month. Which means the church will be open to the public (at certain times) and on Saturdays there will be a chance to look around the church and find out more about its heritage. I will be there talking about the memorials and displaying information about the research project. I'll post details of the open days when they are confirmed.

Work on the Holy Trinity Memorial has begun, I've been researching the names and have discovered some amazing stories. I hope to start publishing them on the blog soon. http://holytrinitywarmemorial.blogspot.co.uk/

New timeline

Some information has turned up that has caused me to change the timeline for the memorial going missing - I've updated this page (scroll to the bottom) http://thewarmemorial.blogspot.co.uk/p/memorial.html with the details.

Basically, I previously thought the memorial was stolen in 1992 - I now believe that it was a different memorial stolen in 1992 and this memorial was most likely taken in the early 1970s. Proving this may be difficult though!

It'd be helpful to track down some people who were in the church during the time it was closed, I'm going to start by contacting the conservation officer at the local authority, I know she was very interested in the church when it was closed.

Holy Trinity War Memorial Project

I have now officially renamed the 'unknown memorial' on the War Memorials Online site as the Holy Trinity/St James Memorial.

I am attempting to research the names the way I have for this project but it's made more difficult by the fact that the Holy Trinity memorial only has initials for christian names. 

Progress will be recorded in a separate blog to this one, as I think over 150 names on the one blog would get too confusing for me to keep track of! So they're over on this one:

I am also hoping to enlist the help of some local history enthusiasts in this research, and am trying to get the local newspaper involved - if anyone out there has this memorial in their pub/shed/loft I want them to know that we've found where it belongs!

I have added the memorial to the War Memorials Online database, it should come up in search results but if you have any trouble finding it, click on this link

Looking through the entries for Liverpool I noticed many without photographs, I've added a couple that I happened to have but it could be an interesting project for someone with a camera and an interest in war memorials!
